root - Tuesday, Jun 8, 2010, 12:00 AMLinux Day is (ideally) celebrated every August 25, based on this Usenet post by Linus Torvalds at comp.os.minix:
Our first celebration (August 25, 2010) was a work day, so the turnout was not as high as expected. We now celebrate Linux Day on the Saturday closest to August 25 (if it does not fall on a Saturday) to allow more people to participate.
